What with all the preparation to leave everything behind for a year I haven’t created anything interesting for a little while… As such I thought I’d post a few old things and a few bits from work.
First up! Unstruck – unstruck.wordpress.com
Al asked me, very kindly, for a few guest illustrations a few years ago. I was concerned that I wouldn’t be up to the usual standard of the Blog (and I wasn’t really, the regular illustrators are amazing) and I’m really proud to be featured.
#0.1 indeed! Sans animation, any real situational responsiveness or any buttons to press here is the first-est version of the sim banker game.
left to drink & increase happiness
up to clean yourself up with the financial times
right to eat beluga caviar
down to invest in the stock markets
I’ll be implementing nice buttons for these at some point but these keypresses where nice and easy to implement for #0.1.
At the moment all actions cost 10 (thousand?) and investing is a simple game of chance with:
- 1/6 chance of losing 20
- 1/6 chance of losing 10
- 3/6 chance of winning 20
- 1/6 chance of winning 30
#0.2 will include responsive graphics with more rubbish / riches / pallidness / sadness depending on scores. I also plan to replace the ugly text with pictures and ‘health’ bars.
For my next trick I will give you unprecedented access in to the mysterious world of ‘business’.
Look after your very own ‘business’ man, feed him stock options then clean up after him with the financial times! Perform more than 3 actions to make sure your ‘business’ man is kept in cigars and brandy!
Ok ok ok! I promise this is the last jumping people post!
But they have finally organised themselves well enough to do a wave as you pass your pointer of choice over them and they really, really wanted to show you!
Wave little guys! Wave!
On to a new silly project now!
Build it and they shall come!
The one in the red is totally checking you out!
Heres the code for this one if you are that way inclined:
On a more serious note… this doesn’t seem to be behaving so well remotely (compared to running off my machine locally) and if anyone has any tips on optimisation, especially regarding the loading of the images each time the instance of the person is drawn that would be grand!
Look what I maded!
He looks so happy!
Now all I need is more tiny guys on the screen at once to jump up and down randomly… what’s that little guys? You’re all praising your benevolent maker?… awww, ok!
*I use the word tiny as a full admission to borrowing someone else’s lovely style – here’s looking at you www.nimblebit.com!
It all started with one silly whiteboard drawing in tribute to one legendary man…
Matt the Pirate Eagle!
It took just one lunchtime to convert this into a piece of unfinished pixel art…
As you might tell we’re not quite done yet, there just isn’t enough peril to keep Matt the Pirate Eagle occupied. I also get the feeling that Matt the Eagle Pirate would appreciate a title screen, some screaming MIDI guitar to fly along to and his pixelated body to be finished!
Well I can’t do everything at once Matt the Eagle Pirate! All dedicated to the high champ overlord Mr Matt “Pay Check” Hendry!
Having moved into a more analytic-sy role by day I have been spending a buch of time time putting together screen casts for mrmetrics.com recently.
As well as geeking out over reams of data I also got a chance to draw a little calculator man!
Vive Inky et Noir! My first ever little flash game, I thought I had lost it but it turns out I just hid it online ready to one day find again on a rainy sunday afternoon!
I wish I still had the FLA file so that I could tidy it all up a bit… and add a mute button…
I have been neglecting Design Something terribly for the past few months due to a little project I have been working on called The Robot Good News Bible.
I wrote the novel during November 2009 for NaNoWriMo and decided, as I had some great feedback about the story, I would serialise the novel on-line.
The story is about the fight to live on your own terms.
